Gentlemen's Club

There are often misconceptions of what at traditional gentlemen's club is compared to the term gentlemen's club when used as a euphemism. Here is the difference:

A traditional gentlemen's club is a members only club. It originated from London and was set up by and for the British upper class men in the 18th century. The interested of these clubs ranged from their members' interests in sport, art, cars, travel, politics, and other pursuits. These clubs were in essence a second home to the members where men could relax, play games, get a meal, and even stay overnight. Although there aren't many gentlemen's club around as there was before, there are still quite a few that exist today all over the world. United Kingdom, India, United States, Australia, and South Africa all have prominent gentlemen's clubs.

When used as a euphemism, a gentlemen's club is often referred to as a strip club. These are prevalent in the United States as well as in the United Kingdom. These two different types of gentlemen's club should definitely not be mixed up as one is describing a prestigious club for men of middle/upper class while the other describes a venue of entertainment for men/women to enjoy.

Are you the Perfect Gentleman?

It saddens me to say that in today's society, the majority of men do not know how to treat women. This led me to thinking. What happened to chivalry? Is chivalry dead?

Before I get into my analysis, here is a little background on what exactly is the term "chivalry". Chivalry was a term used to describe the characteristics of knighthood. Knights were known to be chivalrous because they were courteous to women. We can apply this same term to men who treat women with respect and courtesy in today's society. Although there are some good gentlemen out there who still practice chivalry and treat women well, we are seeing a lot more ***holes and a lot less chivalry taking place nowadays.

Ladies for the most part want to be treated as princesses. Some men and women may think that this treatment will strip the women of their independence but that is just a misconception. It is ultimately up to the woman how she wants to be treated. But gentlemen should always try to be chivalrous regardless.

Gentlemen's Cruise Attire

Since I am going to be going off to a cruise, I thought it would be fitting and appropriate to write a about cruise wear for gentlemen.

For a cruise, there are different dress codes that adhere to different nights and events. For example, the formal dinners usually require passengers to have the full formal attire. Now what exactly is this full formal attire? Tuxedos and dark suits are usually required for the men. But of course, if you truly want to be a gentlemen, then this type of attire should not be a problem for you.

There are other nights where the event calls for business casual. Now this type is a little bit more tricky. You will need to find the middle ground between formal wear and casual wear. One of the biggest characteristic of business casual is not wearing a tie. A nice blazer, dress shirt, belt, and slacks is usually good enough for this semi-formal/business casual look.

And then there is the casual look. Although the casual look sounds lazy in a way, you still want to have that gentlemen swag. Make your casual stand out more so than anyone else's casual.

Well there you have it. Some simple tips for cruise attire!

Ne-Yo's Five Rules on Being A Gentleman

On the topic of being a Gentleman, I've found this video on YouTube of the singer Ne-Yo giving five rules to being a gentlemen.

Rule One: You are a walking, talking, living billboard. Make sure you look your best at all times!

Rule Two: Never let them see you sweat. If you don't know, then don't make it up! Stay classy!

Rule Three: Gentlemen never lets his woman walk on the curb. Put your lady on the inside so your lady doesn't get hit by a car!

Rule Four: If you are able to sit down for dinner, make sure you pull out the chair for your woman. Then you sit down.

Rule Five: BIGGEST RULE of being a gentleman. Never, ever, ever, ever call your woman a b*tch!

Thanks Ne-Yo! :)

A Few Points on Ties

Learning how to wear a tie is an important characteristic in becoming a gentleman. A gentleman's appearance is key, especially for first impressions. You do not want to look sloppy when you are out for an interview, out an a hot date with a really cute girl, or out on a formal occasion such as a wedding.

When you are purchasing ties, it is quite simple once you know a few simple tips. The first thing you should do before purchasing ties is to determine how long they should be relative to your body figure. One of the worst things that could happen is that the tie can either be too long or too short. When it is tied correctly, the tip of the tie should come just to your belt buckle, no more, no less.

Secondly, it is important that the tie make a nice, snug, knot. If it is not snug, the tie might look sloppy and your appearance might not appeal to people. Finally, it should coordinate in color with the outfit and the patterns should not clash with the pattern of the suit or sport coat.

Etiquette with Women

Etiquette with women is one of the major rules for men who are trying to have a distinguished persona as a gentleman. Whenever a man is out with a woman, it is important that they follow a few simple rules. First off, a gentleman should always make sure to open any doors for the ladies, and always let them walk in first. If there are any stairs or escalators, a gentleman should follow behind the lady when going up and proceed before her when going down. This is to ensure her safety just in case she stumbles and falls. At the dinner table, a woman should be shown to her chair before any men take their seats. Men should also rise any time she happens to leave or returns to the table. When it comes to food, a gentleman always waits for his lady to get her food before he begins eating. When down the street, a gentleman should make sure that his lady walks on the inside of the sidewalk, rather than on the street side of the sidewalk. This is for safety purposes just in case a car jumps the sidewalk. Following these simple rules will leave a positive impression on women and can possibly ensure future dates!
