Gentlemen's Club

There are often misconceptions of what at traditional gentlemen's club is compared to the term gentlemen's club when used as a euphemism. Here is the difference:

A traditional gentlemen's club is a members only club. It originated from London and was set up by and for the British upper class men in the 18th century. The interested of these clubs ranged from their members' interests in sport, art, cars, travel, politics, and other pursuits. These clubs were in essence a second home to the members where men could relax, play games, get a meal, and even stay overnight. Although there aren't many gentlemen's club around as there was before, there are still quite a few that exist today all over the world. United Kingdom, India, United States, Australia, and South Africa all have prominent gentlemen's clubs.

When used as a euphemism, a gentlemen's club is often referred to as a strip club. These are prevalent in the United States as well as in the United Kingdom. These two different types of gentlemen's club should definitely not be mixed up as one is describing a prestigious club for men of middle/upper class while the other describes a venue of entertainment for men/women to enjoy.

Are you the Perfect Gentleman?

It saddens me to say that in today's society, the majority of men do not know how to treat women. This led me to thinking. What happened to chivalry? Is chivalry dead?

Before I get into my analysis, here is a little background on what exactly is the term "chivalry". Chivalry was a term used to describe the characteristics of knighthood. Knights were known to be chivalrous because they were courteous to women. We can apply this same term to men who treat women with respect and courtesy in today's society. Although there are some good gentlemen out there who still practice chivalry and treat women well, we are seeing a lot more ***holes and a lot less chivalry taking place nowadays.

Ladies for the most part want to be treated as princesses. Some men and women may think that this treatment will strip the women of their independence but that is just a misconception. It is ultimately up to the woman how she wants to be treated. But gentlemen should always try to be chivalrous regardless.
